GTRCC
&
where we came from:
The Golden triangle Radio Control Club (GTRCC)
is an AMA chartered club (#610) that was founded 46 years ago.
While the general location of the club has always been
near Arlington, Texas, the last flying field was near Burleson,
Texas. It was lost by the club in 1995 largely because of nearby
residential development and an increasing tax burden on the owner.
In 1995 the club had nearly 100 members,
but after years without a flying field, the membership declined to
the very loyal core members. During the interim four years the
club continued an effort to sublease a flying site on the shore of
Lake Joe Pool from the Trinity River Authority (TRA) who leased
the site from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE).
In the spring of 1999 agreement on
satisfactory sublease terms was reached between the GTRCC and the
TRA. Based on these terms, the GTRCC successfully completed a
membership drive to get the necessary minimum of 50 members to make
the sublease financially possible. The process of concluding the
lease was begun, necessary studies were done by all parties (TRA,
COE, & GTRCC) and in September 2000 the
lease was executed.
The initial sublease was for a period of
three years. The major terms of the sublease include a fixed fee of
$1500 per year plus $40 per member. In addition, the Golden
Triangle Radio Control Club agreed to be responsible for
certain maintenance items including fences and firebreak protection.
Also, all flying site facilities are the responsibility of the club
with no aid from either the TRA or the COE.
The City of Grand Prairie has taken over
control of Low Branch Park which includes our flying site. They
have toured our field and appear to be very receptive to our plans
for the field. As of January 2005, we
finally have a new lease for 5 years, with an option to renew for
another 5 years.
Final dollar figure was $1500 per year flat rate.
We love our field and we think you'll love it too. |
